House Upsilon
๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ | ๐ฑ๐๐๐ ๐ฑ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐House Upsilon is a student residence in Ellensburg and a recurring social setting in the university narrative. Its decisive significance lies in the way it turns private recovery into a public test: for Shelby, entering the house means choosing participation over isolation, even while the atmosphere, her body, and the presence of Jungkook remain emotionally difficult.
Setting and Social Function
House Upsilon appears as a student-house environment rather than a private refuge. On the evening of 19 October, the house is associated with a university party beginning at 21:35. Cassiopรฉe asks Shelby whether she is certain that she wants to go in and reminds her that they are not obliged to enter, making the doorway an immediate point of choice and consent. Shelby answers that she will be fine and says that the three women will have fun together. The house therefore first functions as a threshold: it offers companionship, but it also exposes Shelby to the social world she has been avoiding.
Once they enter, the physical environment is defined by deafening music and immediate welcome. Namjoon greets Shelby, Dorcas, and Cassiopรฉe with a smile, embraces them, and leads them to the kitchen, where they can take food and drinks. The movement from the entrance to the kitchen gives the scene a simple but meaningful progression from apprehension to inclusion. House Upsilon is not presented as neutral background; its noise, open hospitality, and shared refreshments establish the collective pressures and consolations of student life.
Shelby's Return to Public Life
Shelby has difficulty attending another student party, but she deliberately wants to go because she does not want to remain alone in her room as she usually does. Her decision gives House Upsilon a specific psychological function. The house becomes the place where withdrawal is challenged without being erased: Shelby is still vulnerable, yet she takes an active step toward other people. Her intention is also connected to Jungkook's presence, since the party offers another opportunity to surprise him. Social participation and romantic hope thus overlap within the same setting.
The party also makes Shelby conscious of her body. Feeling uncomfortable, she tries to hide the upper part of her body, but Cassiopรฉe notices and quickly takes hold of her arms. Cassiopรฉe reassures her that she looks beautiful in the top and reminds her that Shelby herself had asked to borrow something sexy. This exchange shifts the house from a potentially threatening public space into a setting where friendship provides immediate bodily and emotional support. The reassurance does not deny Shelby's discomfort; it answers it through touch, affirmation, and the refusal to let shame determine her movement through the room.
Connections to the Wider Narrative
House Upsilon belongs to the same university world as Central Washington University in Ellensburg, but it represents a different kind of space from the classroom, the psychology clinic, or the underground boxing venue at Ares Garden. The clinic is linked to treatment, while Ares Garden is linked to Jungkook's nocturnal violence and the spectacle of illegal fights. House Upsilon instead gathers students through music, food, drinking, embraces, and informal friendship. Its social openness can be welcoming, but it also places emotionally wounded characters in an uncontrolled communal environment.
The contrast with Ares Garden is especially revealing. At Ares Garden, darkness permits Jungkook to release the violent creature he carries within him, and Namjoon supports him beside the ring. At House Upsilon, Namjoon appears in another role: a smiling host who embraces the arriving women and directs them toward food and drink. The same friend is therefore connected both to Jungkook's dangerous public identity and to the ordinary hospitality of student life. The two spaces divide the narrative's social geography between combat and celebration, concealment and welcome, bodily danger and attempted belonging.
Narrative Significance
House Upsilon's importance comes less from permanent architectural description than from the choices and relationships it concentrates. The entrance scene places Shelby between retreat and participation, with Cassiopรฉe's concern guarding the threshold and Namjoon's welcome carrying the group inward. Dorcas and Cassiopรฉe enter with Shelby rather than leaving her to face the party alone, so the house records the practical form of their friendship: accompaniment, attention, and shared movement.
The setting also shows that recovery is not represented as a clean escape from distress. Shelby can enter the party, seek enjoyment, and hope to surprise Jungkook while still feeling the need to cover herself. House Upsilon holds those opposing facts together. It is a place of loud communal pleasure, but the scene's emotional center is the quiet act of friends taking Shelby's hands and helping her remain visible. In that sense, the house becomes a social threshold where vulnerability is not cured, but briefly carried by others.
